All my work was done on 22" x 7 1/2" cold press watercolor paper with watercolor paints.
What an amazing experience! I had taken the Landscape Painting class with Nora about 5-6 years ago and had not had such a positive outcome as this trip. I did feel that what I had learned the first time was with me when I made some crucial decisions about format and medium before I even left my house though. Even though I brought watercolor pencils and watercolor crayons I had the most success with my watercolor paints. I decided on the same format of 22" x 7 1/2" , on cold press watercolor paper, for all the paintings I would attempt. My previous problems were parlayed by choosing to work in a horizontal format that was smaller and much easier to maneuver. Since I had not picked up a paint brush in nearly 3 years I was a little rusty at first. "Apprehension" was the word of the first day out and pure joy and excitement by the last day. I appreciate and want the thank everyone for the shared camaraderie and the comments from everyone involved during the critiques. I was very excited about the prospect of immersing myself in the medium for a whole week with no distractions. The experience gave me a renewed passion for painting and I too came home and whipped out the paintbrushes immediately. I was truly inspired by the sunflower fields and plan on recreating the landscape in a much larger format. It was a fun and fabulous experience and I hope to return to the area to paint again soon.
